THE SEARCH FOR AMERICA’S FIRST GAY COUNTRY SUPERSTAR

AMERICAN PRIDE is a breakthrough multi platform project – An American Idol docusearch encompassing several properties – a documentary film, soundtrack and solo albums, a live tour, online and mobile advertising revenue streams, a book, and theatrical scripted feature film. Through AMERICAN PRIDE what we discover is hugely entertaining and unexpectedly deep. This is an historic first for performers who have all the talent and drive in the world but have been excluded from the American dream by an industry and a culture that do not see Gay Country Singer as three words that belong side-by-side. That was, until now.

IN THE BEGINNING
It started with an unlikely ad in a Nashville weekly: ”LOOKING FOR GAY COUNTRY SINGER.” Sounds like a spoof, Right? Larry Dvoskin, an openly gay, Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer (David Bowie, Van Halen, Brandy, Ricky Martin) placed the ad on a lark based on an off-hand comment by a colleague.. He didn’t know what to expect. A few crank phone calls? A Dolly Parton drag queen?

PANDORA’S BOX
What Dvoskin didn’t foresee was the thousands of calls from aspiring musicians, singers and songwriters overwhelming his answering machine. What they had to say was heartwarming, hilarious, riveting and inspiring. Along the way, the massive response to Dvoskin’s ad shut down Bell South’s entire southern voicemail network server.

THE PARADOX
What happens when you’re born gay and country? No gay person in their right mind would choose a career in country music – not if they wanted to be openly gay that is. As Richard Nixon famously once said, “Country music is America, it started here – it’s ours.”

THE AUDITIONS & FILM
An online casting call and auditions held in cities nationwide including Nashville, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles and others ensures media buzz and water cooler talk as we bring out the good, the bad and the delightfully weird. From these online and live events a cast of 10 male and female performers will be selected to be featured in the film, and perform at a historic concert at Nashville’s "mother church of country music” – The Grand Ole Opry. At this finale concert, one lucky performer will be selected to receive a major record deal. The film will become the property of AMERICAN PRIDE PRODUCTIONS LLC, the producing entity for AMERICAN PRIDE.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL
AMERICAN PRIDE will explore the struggles to transcend stereotypes and gain acceptance by one of the last arenas that still excludes gay men and women.

A MULTI-PLATFORM BRAND
AMERICAN PRIDE is a multi-platform franchise built on a series of live events, an online competition, mobile phone consumer interactivity, CD releases, documentary, a book and scripted feature film. This is a ground floor opportunity to be associated with an evergreen brand which will fold out in subsequent years to genres such as Hip Hop, Reggae and Christian.
